  • 1989: Australia and Indonesia sign illegal "Timor Gap Treaty". Creates a Joint Authority to administer hydrocarbon exploration. Production Sharing Contacts signed with oil companies.
  • 1991: Portugal protests with litigation against Australia in the International Court of Justice.
  • 2000: "Exchange of Notes" between UNTAET and Australia. Continues treaty terms. Australia wins BIG: Gets 80% of Greater Sunrise. East Timor loses.
